Creative Submissions Honouring Grandparents/Spiritual Grandparents/the Elderly

We invite everyone to join us in marking this momentous year by celebrating the experience and wisdom of the elderly and their important role in passing on and preserving the Catholic faith through generations.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in a collaborative project to bring out everyone’s creativity to honor the grandparents, elders, and spiritual grandparents through culture, music, artwork, video, and articles.

Your group or personal entry will be shared here on the NWLF website!

The elderly “are trees that always bear fruit and people who continue to dream.” So young people must be “brought into dialogue with the dreams of the elderly.

Reference Directory for Catechesis 209 – 215

212 The church, which over the course of the centuries has interacted with different artistic expressions (literature, theatre, cinema, etc.) is also called to be open, with due critical sense, to contemporary art as well, “including those unconventional modes of beauty which may mean little to the evangelizers yet provide prove particularly attractive for others”. Such art can have merit of opening the person to the language of the senses, helping him not to remain only a spectator of the work of art but to join in the performance. These artistic expressions, often pervaded by a strong sense of the search for meaning and spirituality, can help in the conversion of the senses, which is part of the journey of faith; they can also encourage the letting go of a certain intellectualism into which catechesis can fall.
